Louvre Museum

The Obverse depicts the east facade of the Louvre, superimposed on a representative plan of the labyrinthine layout of the museum's magnificent rooms. In the background are the pyramidion and the structure of the Great Pyramid, symbolizing the traditional yet contemporary nature of the Louvre. At the bottom of the coin, adjacent to the inner edge, is the circular inscription “MUSÉE DU LOUVRE.” Inside the image of the museum's floor plan are: at the top left, the initials “RF” (Republique Francaise); at the bottom left, the minting year; and at the bottom right, the symbols of the Paris mint and the engraver. On the outer part are the 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
