On the Obverse, in the center of the coin, is a portrait of the famous Polish scientist naturalized as a French citizen Marie Curie, facing left; the portrait is overlapped in the center by the vertical inscription “MARIE CURIE” and, at the bottom right, by a representation of the Sower. On the left, between two of the stripes symbolizing the French flag, is the minting year, while at the bottom, adjacent to the effigy and the image of the Sower, are the symbols of the French Mint and the director of the Mint. On the right, superimposed on the stripes symbolizing the French flag, are the initials RF, République Française, placed vertically, flanked by the signatures of the late 19th-century French medallist Oscar Roty (known for his depiction of the Sower on coins) and the author Joaquin Jimenez, also placed vertically within two stripes: “O. Roty” and “J. Jimenez”. Along the edge 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "50 EURO CENT" on the center-right part and the European continent on the left.
