50 eurocent Greece

1st type: years 2002-2006

On the Obverse the portrait of Eleftherios Venizelos (1864-1936), an important Greek political figure. On the left the inscription '50 ΛEΠTA', with the minting year underneath. On the right the mintmark. On the lower part of the bust is the engraver's signature and the statesman's name in Greek characters: 'EΛ. BENIZEΛOΣ'. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. On 2002 coins, if minted by the Spanish mint, there is an additional mintmark 'E' inserted in the star at 8 o'clock.  The coin's Reverse is the old common side of Euro coins, with the face value "50 EURO CENT" on the center-right part and the European Union (before its enlargement) on the left. Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
