Bulgarian Euro Coins
Bulgarian Euro coins entered circulation in 2026, the year in which the country adopted the common European currency. As with all Euro area issues, the reverse shows the common design shared by member states, while the obverse features national subjects representing Bulgarian history and tradition.
The national series uses three different designs. The 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent coins depict the Madara Rider, a well-known medieval rock relief and national historical symbol of Bulgaria. The 1 Euro coin bears the effigy of Saint John of Rila, a religious figure regarded as the country’s principal patron saint. The 2 Euro coin instead features the portrait of Paisius of Hilendar, an 18th-century monk and historian, author of one of the key works of the Bulgarian National Revival.
The coins are minted by the Sofia Mint, already responsible for previous Lev issues and in charge of producing the Bulgarian Euro series.
