2 Euro Commemorative coins Belgium 2024
Presidency of the country in the Council of the European Union

The Obverse depicts 27 swallows in flight. The design is intended to symbolise the operational method of the European Union, which operates as a group, but retains the individuality of each member; moreover, there are 27 swallows, like the states belonging to the EU. At the top, on the right, between the swallows, is the initials "BE" (identifying Belgium). At the bottom, on four lines, is the inscription "BELGIAN PRESIDENCY OF THE COUNCIL OF THE EU 2024". To the left, adjacent to the inner edge and positioned one below the other, are the author's initials "IB", the symbol of the Belgian Mint Director and the mintmark of the Dutch Mint. On the outer part are the 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with six '2' in incuse (repeated alternately from bottom to top and vice versa) and twelve five-pointed stars.

Fight against cancer

The Obverse, in the center of the coin, depicts a ribbon, the universal symbol of the fight against cancer. The ribbons extend towards the sides of the coin, forming curves that reproduce the pattern of a heartbeat on a monitor. At the top are three circular lines representing a rainbow (symbol of hope); and the lowest line on the right contains the initials “BE” (identifying Belgium) followed by the minting year. The lower part features the inscriptions “Lutte contre le cancer” and “Strijd tegen kanker” (“Fight against cancer” in French and Dutch), written one below the other. Below the two inscriptions, adjacent to the inner edge, are the symbol of the Belgian Mint Director and the mintmark of the Dutch Mint. On the left, between the design and the inscriptions, are the initials of the author, “IB.” On the outer part are the 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
