1st type: King Albert, years 1999-2006

2 Euro Belgio Re Alberto prima serie dritto         2 Euro Belgio verso

On the Obverse we find in the centre the portrait of King Albert II of Belgium, facing to the left, while on the outer part are the 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union, with the year of mintage at the bottom and the sovereign's monogram (a crowned A) to the right. The coin's Reverse is the old common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European Union (before its enlargement) on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with six "2" in incuse (repeated alternately from bottom to top and vice versa) and twelve five-pointed stars.
Diameter: 25,75 mm
Thickness: 2,20 mm
Weight: 8,5 g
Composition: bimetallic coin (outer part: copper-nickel, inner part: nickel-brass).

3rd type: new design, years 2008-2013

On the Obverse we find in the centre the portrait of King Albert II of Belgium, facing to the left, with his monogram (a crowned A) on the right and the inscription BE, indicating the issuing nation. At the bottom is the minting year, enclosed between the mint mark and the mintmaster's mark, while on the outer part are the 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union. The changes to the original design were made in response to requests from the European Commission, which recommended the presence of the name or symbol of the issuing state on the national sides. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.

On the Obverse, following the abdication of Albert II, we find in the centre the portrait of the new King Philippe, facing to the right, with his monogram on the left (an intertwined F and P, surmounted by the crown) followed by the initials BE indicating the issuing nation. At the bottom is the minting year, enclosed between the marks indicating the mint and the mintmaster, while on the outer part are the 12 five-pointed stars, the symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO".
