250 years of the National and University Library of Slovenia

The Obverse features the handle (slightly tilted and extending partially into the outer ring) of the entrance door to the National and University Library in the center of Ljubljana. The handle depicts Pegasus, the most famous of the winged horses in Greek mythology, intended as a symbolic guide for visitors, accompanying them into the world of knowledge represented by the Library. At the top of the coin, adjacent to the inner edge, is the circular inscription “NARODNA IN UNIVERZITETNA KNJIŽNICA” (National and University Library), followed by the year “1774” at the bottom. At the bottom, also along the inner edge, is the arched inscription “SLOVENIJA,” followed by the minting year. On the outer part 12 five-pointed stars, symbol of the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
