Twenty years of EU accession

The Obverse depicts various elements representing Cyprus' importance within the European Union: the stylized headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels (Cyprus as an element of development in the European context) and the globe, partially covered at the bottom by a design reproducing the geographical shape of the island (the geopolitical importance of Cyprus), all surmounted by the 12 stars of the European flag. Inside the design depicting the island are the words “KYΠPOΣ” and "KIBRIS" (the Greek and Turkish names of the island, respectively), placed one below the other. At the bottom, below the images and adjacent to the edge, are the years "2004 - 2024“ can be seen, while the rest of the inner edge of the coin features the circular inscription “20 ΧΡΌΝΙΑ ΑΠΌ ΤΗΝ ΈΝΤΑΞΗ ΤΗΣ ΚΎΠΡΟΥ ΣΤΗΝ ΕΥΡΩΠΑΪΚΉ ΈΝΩΣΗ” (“20 years since the accession of Cyprus to the European Union”). On the outer ring are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
Edge: finely milled, with the inscription "2 ΕΥΡΩ 2 EURO" in incuse, repeated two times.
