2 Euro Commemorative coins Luxembourg 2025
75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration

On the Obverse, in the lower part of the coin, a hand is depicted holding a pencil and writing on a sheet of paper; the pencil, in the upper part, is represented as an olive branch which, in turn, transforms into a flock of doves (both symbols of peace). The doves fly towards the top, where six stars are arranged in a semicircle, representing the six Member States that later signed the Treaty establishing the European Coal and Steel Community, for which the Schuman Declaration laid the groundwork. The speech held by Robert Schuman (then French Minister of Foreign Affairs) is considered the first official political speech in which the concept of Europe as an economic and political union among various states emerged. At the top is the circular inscription “DECLARATION SCHUMAN,” with the date “09.05.1950” written in an arc below it. Further down, on the left, is the number "75" (the anniversary year), with the monogram of Grand Duke Henri (the crowned letter “H”) immediately below it. On the right is the vertical inscription “LUXEMBOURG,” which partially extends into the outer ring; to its left is theminting year, also in vertical orientation, while to its right, adjacent to the inner edge and one below the other, are the mark of the French mint and the symbol of the engraver Joaquin Jimenez ((there are two variants with regard to the mint symbols: on the BU coincard, BU sets and commemorative mint sets Proof there is the mark of the Dutch mint and the symbol of the Dutch mint director, while on the mint sets Proof there is the mark of the German mint in Munich "D"). At the bottom, below the design, are the initials of the author, Chiara Principe, “CP”. On the outside part are placed 12 five-pointed stars, representing the European Union. The coin's Reverse is the new common side of Euro coins, with the face value "2" on the left and the European continent on the right, overlapped by the inscription "EURO". Six vertical lines with a star at each end are placed behind the Europe's image.
